Entrevista a Lenerson Polonini

LP : Wilson, por décadas você vem trabalhando na criação de instrumentos inusitados e na criação de trilhas, composições, baseado em seus experimentos em música eletrônica. Hyper Pedal Amazônico, é a continuidade de suas buscas em criar fricções sonoras?

WS : Voce sabe, eu estudo música desde os 6 anos de idade – então às vezes me pego pensando o quanto eu já compreendia a potência da música naquela idade. Pura alma. Talvez até mais ou pelo menos mais puramente que agora. Então esta coisa de passado e futuro numa arte essencialmente temporal como a música perde um pouco o sentido… Sim fricção sempre. Minha formação vem da Música Contemporânea, justamente na fricção, na fresta, na hiper e na pós sensibilidade.

O Hyper Amazonic Pedal é uma parte da pesquisa sonora e musical que venho realizando como você mesmo disse, por décadas – em paralelo com várias outros afazeres criativos.Trata-se de compreender a voz da Hiléia, não no sentido romântico do termo, mas como uma espécie de Gaia expandida : onde a somatória de todas as vozes – que representam vidas – são portadoras de sentido e informações / qualidades sensíveis muito importantes para a vida e a sobrevivência de cada um dos atores neste imenso Teatro Verde.

Quanto aos meus instumentos – tanto os inventados, quanto os tradicionais – todos sabem que são extensões naturais de mim, um ser sonoro de muitos tentáculos estendido sob um céu parietal.

Interview to Lenerson Polonini

You know, I’ve been studying music since I was 6 years old – so sometimes I find myself thinking how much I already understood the power of music at that age. Pure soul. Perhaps even more or at least more purely than now. So this thing of past and future in an essentially temporal art like music loses some sense … Yes, friction always. My training comes from Contemporary Music, precisely in friction, in the gap, in hyper and post sensitivity.

The Hyper Amazonic Pedal is a part of the sound and music research that I have been doing as you said for decades – in parallel with several other creative tasks. It is about understanding Hiléia’s voice, not in the romantic sense of the term, but a kind of expanded Gaia: where the sum of all voices – which represent lives – are bearers of meaning and sensitive information / qualities that are very important for the life and survival of each of the actors in this immense Green Theater.

As for my instruments – both the invented and the traditional ones – everyone knows that they are natural extensions of me, a sonorous being with many tentacles stretched out under a parietal sky.

La MaMa and CultureHub team up with artists in Brazil to create a special edition of Downtown Variety, an online live performance series that features short acts of dance, music, theater, new media, comedy, A/V performance, and more. Downtown Variety brings La MaMa’s 1960s café aesthetic to a virtual platform that links performers and audiences in real time across distance. This special edition of Downtown Variety brings a snapshot of Brazilian contemporary artistic production centered on plurality, language research, experimentation and diversity of expressions in Brazil today. In this edition, curated by Lenerson Polonini, we highlight significant artists of the underground scene. “La MaMa represents the avant garde of the experimental theater. Over almost six decades of existence, it has produced and hosted very important works and the most restless and transgressive artists in the world scene, transforming itself into a creative engine, an oasis of creative, cultural and social freedom”, comments Lenerson Polonini, Brazilian Cultural Ambassador of La MaMa and guest curator of this edition.
